Immigration Policies

Immigration policy in Costa Rica

The immigration in Costa Rica is a topic very controversial, but first we need to know the term about the immigration and the pros and cons about this topic. First, the immigration is the movement of non-native people into a country in order to settle there for obtains a good life. Furthermore, it is a habit developed over several years where the people are introduced in a new habitat. Third, this habit generates effects in the population where the new people is introduced; for example: hatred, contempt, work hard to earn the respect of his similar, xenophobia, reach new country to earn money even though their work is poorly paid in most cases.

However, this theme has many points of view; the persons do not xenophobic and the xenophobes. Thus, it is must create equilibrium between both opinions to avoid prejudice anyone. Therefore, I defend the people that need a future better for themselves and her/his family and struggle every day to achieve your goal. These people leave everything in their home countries because in most cases have nothing to eat. So, seeking new horizons and this feat is worthy of admire when they make for their families or themselves, but in other cases people leave their country only to get hurt in another and this should not be.

On the other hand, Costa Rica is a target that generates expectations, because it is one of the best placed countries both economically with socially. Though, the reality said that the U.S. is mostly given a warm welcome than the laborer of the Nicaragua as will be treated differently; an example: is a retired couple from California that recently invested in a property (business) near the beach than the Nicaraguans that only come to Costa Rica to pick coffee. The situation described above is a clear example of discrimination due to the immigration.

In Costa Rica there are several institutions responsible for this issue. These institutions are: the agency that enforces immigration law is the Immigration Department (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería), which in turn is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Security (Ministerio de Seguridad Publica). There is also a National Immigration Council (Consejo Nacional de Migración y Extranjería), responsible for reviewing requests for residence.

Nonetheless, the policy is anything but transparent; the regulations and laws are one thing and the application (especially the consistent application) is quite another. The law students of Costa Rica will find many conflicting statutes in the regards at this topic. Although, Costa Rica is making a real effort to streamline its immigration process, and everyone agrees it's time for a change. Despite all the paperwork, the residence categories are quite simple and suitable for not changing significantly in the short term. What can change is where you apply for residency and how quickly documents are processed.

Therefore, I think that all has a change plan for a life good, as the life has its ups and downs, but it is the aims the life of get us stronger and take advantage of every situation that arises. Finally, the life is a continuously a change; thus is the maximum live without hurting anyone, because everyone is equal regardless of our nationality.
